The American Kennel Club® (AKC®) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011-2012 AKC Veterinary Student Scholarships. Students from six American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited schools of veterinary medicine received scholarships thanks to the generous support of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, AKC Companion Animal Recovery and the AKC Canine Health Foundation.

“The 2011-2012 scholarships mark the 20th anniversary of our veterinary student scholarship program, and we thank the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, AKC Companion Animal Recovery and AKC Canine Health Foundation for their continued support of this program,” said Debra Bonnefond, Director of Veterinary Outreach. “We’re happy to be able to assist hard-working future vets that have dedicated themselves to the health and well-being of dogs and other companion animals.”

The AKC Scholarship Program for Veterinary Medicine has existed for 20 years, and the awards are given annually. Each of the 28 AVMA accredited U.S. veterinary school is asked to nominate four scholarship candidates. From these students, the recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, activities with purebred dogs or related research, and need.
