On Tuesday, August 16th, CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union welcomed 24 delegates from the Dominican Republic’s World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and their National School of Cooperative Education, Inc. (ENECOOP) to their headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.  These two Dominican organizations focus on spreading the doctrine, values, principles and practices of cooperatives; and provide training programs, seminars and internship/job positions within cooperatives.

CommonWealth One was the first credit union in the country to be visited by the delegates, who enjoyed a morning presentation focusing on topics such as products & services, departmental structure, procedures & regulations, and internet banking capabilities.  “It was an amazing opportunity to exchange philosophies and policies,” said Vice President of Marketing & Retail Sales Charlotte Cash.  After the presentation, the delegates were treated to a facility tour and a luncheon at a local restaurant.

About the World Council of Credit Union Delegates
World Council of Credit Unions was incorporated on Nov. 10, 1970, the result of a vote of confidence among national credit union associations throughout the world. It was a benchmark in history for the international movement and the culmination of a dream that had stirred enthusiasm in two generations of leaders. WOCCU officially began operations Jan. 1, 1971. Today, WOCCU acts as the leading voice for advocacy and governance on behalf of the international credit union community. WOCCU continues to promote economic freedom and the sustainable growth of financial cooperatives across the globe through education, collaboration and community-based development projects.
