Sandpiper Motel Opens Its Gates To Cool Winter Activities on The Great Ocean Road

Whale Watching
 
A few days ago, the Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centre reported the sighting of several Southern Right whales, including a mother with calf.  Experts say the whales become a lot more active in the winter season.  While whales are rarely seen, visitors to the area in winter are rewarded as they are quite often spotted splashing around and leaping out of the water.
 
Whale watching is one of the most popular attractions on The Great Ocean Road, as the rarely seen giant sea creatures make their way from Antarctica to Warrmambool to give birth to their young.
 
Fishing
 
As of the 15th of August, reports indicate that Southern Bluefin Tuna have not been sighted or caught in the last couple of weeks.  Good catches, sometimes weighing over 100kgs, were frequent during the month of June and July.  The disappearance of the Bluefin Tuna is normal at this time of the year.

But there is no reason to despair.  Fishing enthusiasts report that the area still has plenty to offer, including Salmon, Gummie Shark, Snapper and Morwong.
