DANVA Recognizes Mycometer’s BactiQuant®Water Testing Technology

WEBWIRE

Last year, the Danish Water & Wastewater Association (DANVA) concluded an 18 month study of Mycometer’s BactiQuant®Water testing methodology which resulted in the recommendation of the method for internal water quality control. DANVA is a national association of water and wastewater utilities who are responsible for 85% of the Danish drinking water supply.

Based on this study, the Danish Ministry for the Environment has accepted the BactiQuant®Water technology in their guidelines for handling episodes of exceeding microbiological limits in drinking water.

One of the water utilities that have relied on BactiQuant®Water in their monitoring program is Denmark’s NK-Water. NK-Water is a large water utility that specializes in utilizing the new technology to analyze the bacteria content of the groundwater and the water in the final distribution systems they provide for their customers.

BactiQuant®Water allows water utilities to rapidly test their water samples to ensure that it is safe for consumers. The method allows bacterial contaminants to be concentrated from large volumes of water allowing for a rapid analysis time (10-30 minutes). The method has been proven effective even at low bacterial concentrations.

BactiQuant®Water can be applied to a range of liquid samples including:
• Potable water
• Processed water
• CIP (cleaning in place)
• Recreational water

Other liquids that can be analyzed include the extracts of solid materials or slurries, suspended or solubilized surface samples and liquid industrial products. “BactiQuant®Water changes the way water utilities test to ensure that the water does not contain dangerous levels of microbiological contaminants,” reported Lisa Rogers, President of Mycometer, Inc. (USA). “In the past, water utilities relied on traditional testing methods that included plate counts to determine bacteria levels. This could take several days before the results were known. As any water utilities knows this is far too long, but BactiQuant®Water has changed the industry. Today samples can be analyzed in the field with results in less than one hour,” she continued.
