UK cloud computing company ranked 22nd in Talkin’ Cloud 50 survey

iomart Group plc (AIM:IOM), has been named as one of the top cloud providers in the world in a survey of the top VARS and MSPs working in the cloud.

iomart was listed in 22nd place - the highest ranked UK company to be mentioned - in the Talkin’ Cloud 50 2011 survey. The Talkin’ Cloud 50 identifies the world’s top 100 Value Added Resellers and Managed Service Providers for the cloud.

Angus MacSween, CEO of iomart Group plc, said: “iomart was an early proponent of the cloud and every layer of our service delivery infrastructure has been built to accommodate a real cloud portfolio. We are delighted that our early vision is now bringing recognition from industry specialists like Talkin’ Cloud.”

The Talkin’ Cloud 50 overall ranking is based on annual cloud revenues for 2010, dollar growth and percentage growth from 2009 to 2010 and total number of customer users running cloud applications. It is produced by Nine Lives Media Inc. which defines emerging IT media markets.

iomart Group plc announced a rise in pre-tax profits of 618% on June 1 2011 to £2.8m. Revenue also showed a big increase, up 38% to £25.3m from £18.3m in the previous financial year.

iomart recently launched a new division called Westcoastcloud to provide email, storage and security to the cloud to the channel. The company’s managed hosting and cloud computing business is based on full ownership of its data centre estate in the UK. It owns DCs in London, Maidenhead, Glasgow, Nottingham and Leicester.

Angus MacSween added: “Ownership is particularly important in quelling market concerns associated with cloud computing security and sovereignty of data. iomart offers the full range of cloud flavours, all of which are underpinned by guaranteed service levels.”

Enquiries for enterprise cloud services, still an embryonic market, now make up more than 35% of iomart’s leads.

The Talkin’ Cloud 50 report states: “We are hopeful the Talkin’ Cloud 50 results and company profiles will convince skeptics that cloud computing is more than hype. In fact, the results prove that cloud computing has arrived in the IT channel.”

The survey says that Talkin’ Cloud 50 companies generated $321 million in annual cloud revenues for 2010, up 47 percent from $218 million in 2009.

Earlier this year iomart was ranked in 8th position in Nine Lives Media Inc.’s annual MSPmentor 100, a distinguished list and research report identifying the world’s top 100 managed service providers (MSPs). The company was as listed as the 2nd Top European Managed Service Provider.
