London, United Kingdom –

Work with Cubio and Empower recognized for innovative approach to driving agility, efficiency based on software as a service

Nokia Siemens Networks was a double winner at the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards 2011 yesterday. The company’s Field Service Management system won an award in the ‘Wholesale Service Innovation-Managed Service Innovation’ category. Nokia Siemens Network’s cloud-based communication and messaging platform was honored in the ‘Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation-Mobile Cloud Platform Innovation’ category. The awards were presented in a ceremony that took place in London June 7, 2011.

Field Service Management is based on software as a service (SaaS) and has been developed and piloted with Empower, a field service provider offering field engineering, construction and maintenance services to energy, telecom and other industries. Empower uses this system to allocate resources for work orders based on their business value and the current location, schedules and skills of its field technicians. The company has estimated that the system has increased the efficiency of field service engineers, allowing them to spend up to 17 percent more of their time on actual maintenance and problem resolution while halving the time it spends on work planning.

“With field engineering and maintenance outsourcing on the rise, we need a consolidated view of field activities to streamline our processes,” said Juhani Vanhala, chief development officer, Empower Group. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ cloud-based solution helps boost our competitiveness as well as expand our service portfolio while maximizing revenues.”

Nokia Siemens Networks’ cloud-based communication platform allows event organizers to disperse regular, up-dated event information or provide mobile ‘welcome’ and registration services for thousands of participants of larger events without heavy investments into hardware and software. Information can be delivered via multiple channels such as SMS and email. Moreover, the platform’s auto-polling feature allows participants to share immediate feedback with event organizers.

“Nokia Siemens Networks cloud-based solution, as part of Cubio Tapahtuma (Event), has enabled us to offer a cost-effective, scalable platform to realize a close interaction between thousands of participants and visitors, and the event organizer,” said Harry Järn, CEO, Cubio. “We manage the complete infrastructure setup and the user interface, and provide necessary support for improving the interaction.”

Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards, established in 2007, recognize innovative projects in the telecommunications industry globally, involving service providers and their technology suppliers.
