The Odwalla Plant a Tree Program Allows People Across the Country to Donate a Tree, Free of Charge, to Their Local State Parks

Half Moon Bay, Calif. -- In a year being hailed as the “International Year of Forests” by the United Nations, Odwalla is celebrating by allowing consumers to become foresters. The Odwalla Plant a Tree program, now taking place for the fourth consecutive summer, is a partnership between Odwalla and America’s State Parks to support the environment.

As part of its 2011 Plant a Tree program, Odwalla will donate a total of $100,000 worth of trees to state parks. There are two ways for consumers to participate:

*Odwalla.com: Beginning May 30 through August 31, 2011, visitors to www.odwalla.com/plantatree can click on one of 50 state park systems where they would like for a tree to be planted on their behalf - $80,000 of the total donation will be used for tree planting from website requests.
*Select State Parks: Beginning May 30, state parks in CA, DE, FL, GA, ID, MD, NY, OH, PA, TX, UT, MI, MO, VA, WY will feature welcome maps containing a special code that park visitors can redeem online to have a tree planted at that park. Codes found in the State Park Visitor Welcome Maps can be redeemed through December 31, 2011 - $20,000 of the total donation will be used for tree planting from state park codes.

The species of trees donated will vary by region and will be planted in fall 2011 and early 2012. Since its inception in 2008, the Odwalla Plant a Tree program has donated $350,000 worth of trees.

The program is the latest 2011 initiative by Odwalla to support the environment. Odwalla recently transitioned all of its single-serve bottles to PlantBottle™ packaging, which is 100 percent recyclable and made from up to 100 percent plant-based materials, sourced from sugarcane, and also completed the installation of Bloom Energy fuel cell technology at its Dinuba, CA packaging facility, which reduces the plant’s carbon footprint by an estimated 35 percent.

“So far, 2011 has been a year in which Odwalla has made great strides in our efforts and innovations to support the environment and reduce our dependence on nonrenewable resources. With the return of the Plant a Tree program, we’re inviting Odwalla drinkers to join us in being part of the solution,” said Irma Shrivastava, Odwalla vice president of marketing. “It’s a really simple way for anyone to do some good for the environment.”
