Lectrus Provides Large Prefabricated Electrical Building to Williston Basin Natural Gas Project

Lectrus recently completed a large electrical equipment center for a large natural gas processing facility in Williston, North Dakota. The prefabricated electrical building measured 21 feet wide and 114 feet long and contained a variety of low and medium voltage power distribution equipment. A 100 million standard cubic feet per day cryogenic gas processing plant is being constructed at the facility.

Lectrus teamed with Paradigm Controls of Texas to design and build a 2-piece electrical equipment center that housed transformers, distribution panels, a battery system, five (5) HVAC units, a UPS system, DCS cabinets, server cabinets, 5 & 15kV switchgear, 480V & 5kV motor control centers, and two (2) 2,000HP variable frequency drives. The structural design, electrical layout, enclosure construction, equipment integration and project management was carried out by the Lectrus/Paradigm team. The company’s Houston Operation handled the structural and electrical design and the South Dakota Operation constructed the fully-integrated electrical building.

“This project was truly a team effort”, stated Adam Aasen, Vice President and General Manager of Lectrus South Dakota Operation. “This is the largest equipment center our South Dakota employees have built. After expanding in 2010, we are now capable of handling projects just as large as the other two Lectrus plants. Our South Dakota Operation maintains 77,000 sf of indoor manufacturing space in two buildings, over 120,000 sf of outdoor concrete pad, two large drive-through paint booths and 60 tons of crane capacity”, added Mr. Aasen.

The engineering and project management aspects of this job were challenging. “We were handed 4 or 5 one-line drawings and a load list for the MCCs at the bid stage”, stated Jim Gorman of Paradigm. “We worked hand-in-hand with Lectrus to put the proposal together without much information. In the end, we delivered a fully-integrated power distribution center that both the customer and owner seem very pleased with.”
