PHILADELPHIA, - From Phoenix to Dallas to Hartford – and in many more communities around the nation – thousands of CIGNA employees and their families have walked to support the March of Dimes’ March for Babies. Since 1995, this annual event has been a tradition for CIGNA, uniting company leaders and employees to rally for healthy babies and healthy moms.

With March for Babies walks taking place in cities across the country this spring, CIGNA teams have been lacing up and crossing the finish lines in Atlanta, Denver, Minneapolis, New York, Seattle, Chattanooga and many other locations.

“We believe in helping every baby have a healthy start in life,” said Mark Marsters, senior vice president, Group Operations for CIGNA and this year’s executive co-chair for CIGNA’s March of Dimes campaign. “Through our sponsorship and our participation in the walks, we’re helping moms and babies cross a different finish line - a full-term pregnancy of 40 weeks that helps babies reach important developmental milestones for a healthy birth and beyond.”

Recognizing the importance of having a full term pregnancy, CIGNA has built this year’s campaign around the theme “every baby is worth the wait.” The March of Dimes, CIGNA and other organizations are working to raise awareness of the potential negative effects of elective early deliveries and limit voluntary pre-term births. The last few weeks of pregnancy are critical, allowing a baby’s brain and lungs to fully develop. The March of Dimes and CIGNA urge women who need to schedule a delivery to wait until at least the 39th week of pregnancy, to give their babies’ bodies all the time they need to grow.

To hear first-hand accounts of why supporting this cause is important to CIGNA employees, view videos from the 2011 March for Babies in Dallas and Phoenix, which occurred earlier this spring.

In the coming weeks, CIGNA teams will also join the March for Babies in Baltimore, Scranton, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
