New Guitar Lesson Can Double The Use Of Your Existing Skills

WEBWIRE

In a new lesson posted by Blues Guitar Unleashed creator, Griff Hamlin, guitar players who are struggling to make use of the licks they learn are shown how to change octaves and effectively double the use of most any lick they already know. The full story, including the video, can be found at http://bluesguitarunleashed.com/double-your-mileage-change-octaves/.

According to Griff, “One of my mantras is ‘take what you know and learn to do more with it.’ I say this a lot because a lot of people get hung up on learning more instead of learning how to do more with that they already know how to play. In my experience, it’s a lot easier to take something that you can already play and use it in a new way than it is to learn something totally new from the beginning.”

The video demonstrates how the guitar neck is divided into octaves at the 12th fret, and how a guitar player can use that to easily and quickly move any lick they already know from the lower octave to the higher one, or vice versa.

As Griff points out near the end, “I know, it’s a simple trick and you might say, ‘well of course, I know that.’ But just because you know it doesn’t mean you always remember to do it.”
