Car Leasing Scheme Saves Company £110k

A car leasing scheme adopted by an organisation in Northern Ireland has saved it a huge amount of money, it has been revealed.

According to reports from the Londonderry Sentinel, the Western Health and Social Care Trust has managed to set aside approximately £110,000 on travel expenses as a result of the initiative. The body, with the help of a contract car company, makes use of a leased car facility that is used by 198 employees, at a cost of around £500,000 per year.

By avoiding a company car system and the need to pay full travel allowances to those who use their own car, the Western Trust saves significant sums of money. For example, if a worker was to clock up a mileage of 8,500 in their personal time, as well as 6,500 while working, the organisation would have to pay £3,620 per year in full travel expenses, compared to £3,004 as part of the leasing arrangement.

“The annual savings were calculated on taking a random sample of ten cars and extrapolating to give an approximate annual figure,” said a spokesperson for the trust.
