Habitat announces collaboration with Ella Doran

WEBWIRE

Habitat has collaborated with award winning designer Ella Doran this spring to bring a quirky, vintage-style tea party collection to Habitat stores.

Using quaint thrift shop plates and inherited heirlooms as inspiration, Ella created the Joanie range with more than 20 pieces to choose from including napkins, a tea cup and saucer, tea towels and a three tier cake stand (available soon).

Ella commented on her newest collection: “Tea’s definitely a trend right now, but the trick was to re-interpret the idea in a fresh, modern was for Spring/Summer 2011.”

Other items in the range include a cushion by Ella Doran and a Joanie table runner.

Philippa Prinsloo, Senior Design Manager at Habitat said: “We were excited to see the Joanie design as it worked really well with the summer feeling we were hoping to evoke through out our collection. Ella’s search for beautiful plates has been a passion for years and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy them.”

Ella also created Indian Tale a range of children’s picnicware. Inspired by book and stories from Ella’s childhood, she wanted to “…create images that are bold, simple and imply a narrative for children to interpret however they wish.”

Ella Doran studied Printed Textiles at Middlesex in the early 90’s, and spent her initial career selling textile designs to the fashion and furnishing trade. After living and working in Africa, Ella returned to the UK and set up in business selling tablemats and coasters, revolutionizing tableware with her vibrant images from her travels. Ella’s collections soon grew, to include many every day products, from wrapping paper to cushions, roller blinds to ceramics. Since the late 90’s Ella has continued to build on her strong, bold, award winning designs.

Ella has won numerous prestigious awards and has forged many successful collaborations with well known brands.

Based in the East End with a thriving shop on Cheshire Street, and an online store, Ella’s creative work continues to develop with expanding product ranges and exciting new projects.
