Oslo, The Norwegian National Police Computing and Material Service (PCMS) has selected EDB Ergo Group to provide IT consultancy services for its new data centre solution. The agreement runs for three years, and represents total contract value over this period of NOK 90 million.

“EDB ErgoGroup produced the best bid of the companies bidding for this contract, and demonstrated significant leading-edge expertise in the areas that we need for the development of our new data centre”, comments Espen Strai, Communications Director at PCMS.

“PCMS is an exciting and highly professional customer, and we look forward to starting our collaboration on developing the solution that will meet the police service’s future data centre needs. Through this contract, we will help PCMS to achieve its objectives. We see this as a further example of EDB ErgoGroup’s success in this area, and confirmation that we are an attractive vendor for the public sector”, comments Hans-Henrik Merckoll, SVP Consulting of EDB ErgoGroup.

More about the delivery
PCMS currently uses a decentralised ICT solution that is challenging to operate. The solution is based on 640 police stations around the country. PCMS has therefore decided to invest in a new centralised and virtualised data centre solution, coupled with a disaster recovery solution to ensure stability and availability. The contract was put out to tender, and decided that EDB ErgoGroup’s bid was the best.

Over the next three years, EDB ErgoGroup will work with PCMS to build the new solution. This will involve EDB ErgoGroup in providing services such as advice, design, project management, installation, configuration, operating services and operational support. The complete solution will feature a high degree of inbuilt redundancy at every stage. Two data centres will be established at geographically separate locations to ensure operational continuity. Areas of particular importance in this project will be security, flexibility, cost efficiency, load balancing and redundant data storage.
