TestAmerica Presents Status Report on ITRC Guidance for Incremental Sampling Methodologies at the 2011 DoD EMDQ Conference

WEBWIRE

Dr. Mark Bruce, Technical Director of TestAmerica’s North Canton, Ohio laboratory, will provide the latest updates of the Incremental Sampling Methodology (ISM) guidance at the 2011 DoD Environmental Monitoring & Data Quality Workshop (EMDQ). The presentation will be provided on March 30, 2011 in Arlington, Virginia.

Dr. Bruce and the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) team have been developing a nationally available guidance document to improve the quality of site characterization and to minimize data variability. The presentation provides an overview of the current status on the draft ISM guidance related to foundational concepts of incremental sampling principles, systematic planning, statistical ISM design, field activity, laboratory sample processing, making decisions, and regulatory concerns of ISM data. The ISM draft guidance and training sessions are scheduled for early 2012.

ITRC is a coalition of State regulators that work with Federal partners and industry members to advance the development of guidance for environmental issues. Alaska and Hawaii have widely adopted the use of ISM for site characterization. The Department of Defense has devoted many resources to the development of ISM and is also a significant contributor to this ITRC team.

Dr. Bruce was honored with an Industry Recognition Award by the ITRC for his outstanding contribution to Incremental Sampling Methodology. Dr. Bruce has more than 27 years of analytical chemistry experience and serves as resident technical expert for method development and modification. Recent analytical advancements led by Dr. Bruce involve arsenic and mercury speciation, vapor space organics, and incremental sampling methodology.
