Fujitsu statement on earthquake in Japan

WEBWIRE

Munich, On behalf of Fujitsu and its group companies, we express our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the earthquake that struck the northeast area of Japan on March 11, 2011. We sincerely wish everyone in the regions affected by the disaster the speediest possible recovery.

We are in constant contact with our colleagues in Japan. To the best of our current of knowledge, no Fujitsu employee has been injured by the earthquake or the resulting tsunamis.

Fujitsu is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that its customer commitments are unaffected. We have set up support desks and hotlines for our customers in Japan to keep them constantly updated.

Further measures include shifting production capacities from Fujitsu factories in the affected areas to other plants, for example in Augsburg, Germany, where we already produce all desktop PCs and x86 servers for the European market as well as selected notebook lines. Some notebook models for the European market are produced by a Fujitsu plant in Shimane in the South of Japan, a region that has not been affected by the earthquake. Various support desks and help lines have been set up to support Fujitsu customers in Japan.

The Fujitsu Group is committed to restoring damaged IT systems in the regions with the highest priority placed on lifeline systems such as electric power, water, gas, hospitals, and police and fire departments.

To support recovery efforts, Fujitsu is donating 100 million yen (approximately EUR 875,000 or US $1.22 million) as well as relief supplies.

The amount of loss and effects on profits as a result of the earthquake are currently unknown. Fujitsu will promptly make an announcement should these effects be significant.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues in Japan. We will provide updates as the situation develops.
