Walmart Expands its Multichannel Offering with National Rollout of "Pick Up Today"

WEBWIRE

BENTONVILLE, Ark., – Walmart announced plans to further expand its U.S. multichannel platform by launching a full-scale, national rollout of “Pick Up Today” later this month. The service enables customers to purchase items online and receive free same-day pickup at a local Walmart store, providing even more savings and convenience to customers.

“Walmart is uniquely positioned to combine the power of eCommerce with our national retail footprint to offer a leading, multichannel experience that delivers the best savings and convenience to our customers,” said Steve Nave, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart.com. “We’ve seen strong customer response from initial tests of ‘Pick Up Today,’ and we’re pleased to expand the program to customers nationwide in the coming months.”

“Pick Up Today” will begin its national rollout later this month and, by June, is expected to be available in nearly 3,600 Walmart stores nationwide. The service will also expand to include up to 40,000 items across multiple categories such as Baby, Toys, Home Décor, Hardware, Outdoor Living, Electronics, Household Appliances and Video Games. Online orders are usually ready for pickup in about 4 hours, and orders placed after 6 p.m. are ready for pickup at 10 a.m. the next day. Walmart Continues to Deliver More Multichannel Ways to Save
Walmart offers several other multichannel programs to drive continued business growth while offering customers additional savings and convenience.

* Site to Store – Now in its fifth year of operation, Walmart’s Site-to-Store service allows customers to order tens of thousands of products, most of which are not available in stores, and have items shipped for free to a local Walmart store. Site to Store has saved Walmart customers hundreds of millions of dollars in shipping fees, and customers are receiving their orders even faster than before. Deliveries now arrive in approximately 4-7 days versus the previous window of 7-10 days.
* FedEx Site-to-Store1 – Walmart’s FedEx Site to Store test program allows customers in select metro markets to order online and ship products free to a FedEx Office location, providing those that don’t live near a Walmart store access to Walmart savings at a convenient location. According to a recent Walmart survey, approximately 80 percent of customers cited convenience of location as the number one reason for using FedEx Site to Store, and nearly 90 percent indicated they’d use the service again. More information is available online at www.walmart.com/fedex.
* Walmart Mobile – Through Walmart’s iPhone app and mobile web browser, customers can more easily shop on their terms. New to Walmart Mobile, customers can now refill Walmart Pharmacy prescriptions and order photo prints for pick up at a local store directly from their mobile we browser at m.walmart.com. Customers can also search and browse the full Walmart.com site, view ratings and reviews for all products, create shopping lists, check item availability and find a store using GPS technology.
