Path secures $8.65 million from Index and KP

WEBWIRE

Dave Morin’s blog post - At Path, we’re focused on helping close friends and family deepen their relationships with each other. At the root of happiness in relationships is shared experience.
It was our hope in the beginning that our experiments around more private sharing and more personal network models would enable shared experiences between people that care about each other, and thus form closer relationships. We’ve focused our features around innovative ways to guarantee shared experience such as “Seen” and “Emotion.”

Today we are happy to announce that there have been over 2 million moments shared between close family and friends on Path.

Going Long

We know that in order to build the personal network over the long term, it requires partners who also share our vision. We’re happy to announce today that we have closed our Series A financing of $8.65 million with partners who share our long term vision and dedication to quality, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Index Ventures.
Both Kleiner Perkins and Index have guided and helped create some of technology’s most iconic brands. Joining our board from Kleiner Perkins will be Chi-Hua Chien and from Index will be Mike Volpi. Co-Founder Dustin Mierau will also join the board. Co-Founder Shawn Fanning continues to serve on the board along with myself.

Also joining the family of Path investors is Digital Garage Japan, which has been an important force in bringing leading Internet services to Asia-Pacific markets.

With this new investment we look to the future of creating the most meaningful Path experiences for everyone. Towards that end, we will continue our search to hire the most talented engineers and designers in the world.

Share with Anyone

Surpassing 2 million shared moments and with our long term partners on board, we are also happy to announce that you can now use Path to share with anyone via email. Sharing with Path has so far been limited to your close friends and family with iOS devices.

While this helped us to tune our initial features and ideas in the innovative marketplace of the iPhone and iPod Touch, we heard your feedback loud and clear.

Starting today, Path users can share with anyone using the universal Internet communication standard - email. To start, simply add anyone to your Friend list from your contacts, or add their email address. Every time you share a moment on Path, we’ll deliver a beautiful email with the photo to their inbox.

We’ve also recently rolled out enhancements to the Path experience on the web which are focused on helping you to visualize the moments of your life over time.

At Path we are just getting started. Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks.
