POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Limerick Generating Station employees raised $133,082 for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, increasing their annual contribution by 32 percent over last year’s employee campaign.

“Exelon Nuclear Limerick’s campaign was an unbelievable accomplishment,” said Jill Michal, CEO of United Way Southeastern Pennsylvania. “A 30 percent increase in this economy is a testament to the heart and soul of that organization. But then again, we’re talking about a company that has consistently shown its generosity and spirit in many volunteer activities, in previous campaigns, and more. Exelon Limerick long ago recognized the importance of investing in the community, and that’s what makes them a great partner.”

Employees contribute to the United Way each year by making a one time donation or committing a percentage of their pay check each month to the United Way campaign. Additionally, the employee-run United Way committee schedules several fundraising events during the annual campaign. This year, employees competed in a chili cook-off and wing eating contest. These events helped raised an additional $1000 for the United Way.

“The United Way has touched the lives of many of our families, neighbors and friends in times of need,” said Bill Maguire, Limerick Generating Station site vice president. “We’re thankful we have the opportunity to give back to those who do so much for so many others.”

Over the past three years, Limerick Generating Station employees have donated $309,276 to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. In early 2010, Limerick Generating Station was recognized for their efforts during their 2009 campaign with the Campaign Performance award and Kim Batdorf, Limerick Generating Station employee, was recognized in 2009 as Campaign Chair of the Year.
