November 29, 2010 – Irvine, Calif. – Irvine BMW is proud to continue its support of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation in Orange County in its efforts to continue cancer research to find a cure.
The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s main goal is to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and increase the survival rate of children battling cancer by conducting research, testing new medication and better educating the community on the different types of cancer that affect young children.
Currently Burkitt’s Lymphoma is one of the most common forms of childhood non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Twenty-years ago cancer patients with Burkitt’s Lymphoma had two and a half years of treatment with a 40% survival rate. Through careful research and new medicine the treatment period has gone down to two and a half months and the survival rate has increased to a 95% survival rate.
The change in medicine treatment and survival rate resulted from research conducted through research funded by the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, which was also conducted by Dr. Mitchell Cairo in Orange County, and in many other areas of the world.
“Knowledge is one of the most power medicines against cancer. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation focuses on educating the public about cancer, and raises money to continue intensive research,” said Irvine BMW’s General Manager, Steve Rudkin. “Due to their hard work and their effort to help better our local community, we’re proud to support such a great organization”.
The treatments developed by Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation are considered the standard for treating children with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Because of funds provided to the organization through sponsorships and donations, more research can be conducted and more treatments can become available.
Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation funds research in a number of different areas of pediatric cancer including leukemia, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and brain tumors to name a few.
