NVISION Showcases New NV8288 Router with 3Gb/s Gennum Chipset at NAB 06

Large Scale Router at Half the Size, Depth, Weight, and Power Consumption.

Grass Valley, CA – April 14, 2006 – At NAB 06, NVISION, the leading provider of high-reliability routing systems used in TV broadcast and post production, will demo the first deployment of Gennum’s new 3Gb/s SDI chipset in a large-scale router, the new NV8288 Digital Video Router. The 3Gb/s-capable NV8288 platform was shown privately to customers in the U.S. and Europe in January, and publicly to attendees of the HPA Technology Conference, Palm Springs, in February. NVISION is the first manufacturer to demonstrate 3Gb/s HD-SDI routers that are in compliance with the emerging SMPTE 424M standard. The company has taken a lead role in the development of this standard with NVISION founder Birney Dayton actively engaged in the SMPTE committee work.

“Always ahead of the times, NVISION’s founder Birney Dayton pioneered HD technology beginning in 1989 when he formed the company. His vision has lead NVISION to be first in HD-SDI routing, as well as first in audio routing,” notes Chuck Meyer, president of NVISION.

The Gennum chipset operates at speeds up to 3Gb/s in accordance with the emerging SMPTE 424M standard. 3Gb/s video transport will be integral in bringing the 1080p HD standard to the broadcast market, and will also be used in other high bandwidth applications such as 3D HDTV, Digital Cinema, and slow motion image capture. Integrating the 3Gb/s chipset into NVISION routing systems, including the existing NV8256 Plus routers, gives the company’s customers an upward migration path for future high bandwidth requirements.

Now shipping to global customers, the NV8288 Digital Video Router is specifically designed for use in video production trucks and other applications where space is limited. The NV8288 delivers the same high level of performance and reliability of NVISION’s large-scale studio routers at half the size (10 RU), half the depth (12 inches deep), half the weight (approximately 150 lb), and half the power consumption (less than two kilowatts), as compared to other large-scale routers on the market. Additionally, the Gennum 3Gb/s technology enables superior equalization and re-clocking functions.

“Two factors play a role in our ability to develop breakthrough routing systems -- our single focus on innovating routing technology, and listening and responding to our customers about their applications and requirements,” says Meyer. “The 3Gb/s chipset is another example of how we continue to take the lead in integrating state-of-art technology into our high-reliability routing systems, enabling our broadcast and post-production customers to achieve lower total cost of ownership as well as the needed edge to be at the forefront of their markets.”

The NV8288 Digital Video Routers
Built for HD, the NV8288 router supports all standard SD data rates, and is ASI-compliant. The basic NV8288 can be configured for systems ranging in size from 12 x 12 up to 288 x 576. For customers planning for future needs, the NV8288 Plus offers the same I/O block size, but is expandable with a second frame to 576 x 576. As with all NVISION routing systems, all modules in the NV8288, including power supplies and cooling fans are front-serviceable and hot-swappable, which simplifies installation, upgrades, and service.

Video Production Truck Applications
Telegenics in the U.K, will be rolling out its mobile TV production truck with the new NV8288. And long-time NVISION customer, Corplex, a leading provider of video production trucks in the U.S. for large TV networks, such as CBS, NBC, Fox, and ESPN, recently deployed its new 53-foot HD truck with NVISION routing systems. “In our business, the routing system is the single, most important piece of equipment on the truck, with reliability, flexibility, and signal quality being imperatives. Our customers demand error-free signal transmission and NVISION helps us make this happen,“ states Dave Greany, Corplex vice president of engineering.

Pricing and Availability Now shipping to broadcast customers, the NV8288 Digital Video Router and NV8288 Plus are priced comparable to the NV8256 Plus. See NVISION at NAB 06, booth # SU1414.
