As part of a strategic expansion effort to provide Legionella testing services nationwide, EMSL’s San Leandro, California lab has passed the CDC ELITE Program for Legionella testing making it the fourth EMSL Laboratory to provide this service. Other locations include Cinnaminson, NJ, New York, NY and Houston, TX.

“Due to increased demand for regional Legionella testing locations across the country, we are pleased to announce that our San Leandro Lab has passed the CDC Elite program” explained Diane Miskowski, Business Development Manager at EMSL Analytical. Other EMSL labs are being considered for this expansion.

Legionella bacteria are common contaminants in residential and commercial building potable water systems, hot tubs, and cooling towers. According to US Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 8,000 to 18,000 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease occur annually in the US. However, according to the European Working Group on Legionella Infections it is likely that this disease is under-reported since the diagnosis is often confirmed using only the Legionella Urinary Antigen Test. This test looks for L. pneumophila serotype 1 only while other Legionella species and serotypes can cause Legionnaires’ Disease.

EMSL Analytical, Inc. has been offering scientifically defensible laboratory services since 1981. For more information on Legionella please go to www.legionellatesting.com.
