HOUSTON, TX, October 20, 2010 – If you have a stake in Houston breast cancer issues and health care in Houston, there is a conference you may want to attend – the 6th Annual Breast Health Summit sponsored by the Breast Health Collaborative of Texas.

The two-day meeting – October 28-29 at the United Way of Greater Houston – is expected to attract more than 200 Houston and Texas residents, including physicians, social workers, health care providers and educators, as well as breast cancer survivors, their family members and just plain concerned citizens.

“The Breast Health Summit is all about collaborating, leveraging resources, not duplicating efforts and providing women with increased access to care,” said Dorothy Weston Gibbons, CEO/Co-founder of The Rose, and chair of the Breast Health Collaborative of Texas, headquartered in Houston.

The burning topic at this year’s meeting, said Gibbons, will be healthcare reform and ways the new legislation will impact Houston and Texas women – particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured.

The agenda includes sessions on reducing no-shows, living life after cancer, the new importance of patient navigation, the social aspect of survivorship and organizational ‘speed dating.’

Participating organizations include Pink Ribbons Project, Susan G. Komen Houston Affiliate, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Health Disparities, Voices of Survivors Foundation, Dia de Mujer Latina, Inc., Houston Community College, Lesbian Health Initiative and San Jose Methodist Hospital Cancer Center.

Attendees must register to attend. The cost is $50. Scholarships are available. For more information, call Breast Health Summit co-chair Adriana Simsen in Houston at 281-464-5144. Register online at www.breasthealthsummit.org.
