The Rottenstein Law Group will be represented at the 2010 “Mass Torts Made Perfect” seminar by firm principal Rochelle Rottenstein. The seminar attracts many of the most accomplished and respected plaintiffs’ lawyers from around the country.

This year’s MTMP conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 14 and 15, and will include a segment addressing specifically the recent recall of hip replacement devices manufactured and marketed by DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The DePuy hip replacement recall is one of the defective consumer product matters in connection with which the Rottenstein Law Group represents and counsels victims.

The recall affects approximately 93,000 recipients of dangerous implants worldwide. DePuy’s “ASR XL Acetabular System” was first approved for sale in the United States in 2005. DePuy received special clearance from the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the ASR devices without performing clinical trials. Since 2008, however, the FDA has received hundreds of complaints from recipients of ASR hip replacements. In March 2010, DePuy acknowledged that its ASR products had a higher-than-normal failure rate after data revealed that approximately 12% of those who received an ASR device needed “revision surgery.” In August 2010, DePuy issued a voluntary recall of its ASR devices. Many plaintiffs’ lawyers, including Rottenstein, believe that a recall should have been issued sooner, due to the high volume of complaints about the devices.
