The New York based disco group, Hercules and Love Affair are set to play during the upcoming Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. The festival, held between 13 - 17 October, is Iceland’s biggest arts event, with live music played across various venues in downtown Reykjavik.

Although the festival is now sold out, numerous free off-venue shows in downtown Reykjavik are going ahead for those who have unfortunately missed out on passes.

Hercules and Love Affair are among various international acts to play over the five-day event. Other international artists confirmed to play include Rolo Tomassi, Everything Everything, The Joy Formidable, Mount Kimbie and The Antlers, as well as Icelandic favourites, Agent Fresco, Amiina, Seabear, Reykjavik!, Minus and Sudden Weather Change. This year’s festival is the biggest yet, with over 250 bands booked to play, 180 of which are Icelandic.

Iceland’s one-of-a-kind party atmosphere is the perfect venue to host a music festival, so much so that David Fricke, the Senior Editor at Rolling Stone, has labeled Iceland Airwaves as, “the hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar.”

The first Iceland Airwaves festival was held back in 1999 as a one off event in an aircraft hanger at Reykjavik Airport. Since then, the festival has become a haven for new music, attracting hundreds of partygoers, journalists and industry members from around the world.

Some of Iceland’s previous live music concerts can be found by visiting the Inspired by Iceland website(http://www.inspiredbyiceland.com). There you can also catch interviews with musicians, Eric Clapton and Yoko Ono about how Iceland inspires them.
