New World’s Largest Cruise Ship Revealed

WEBWIRE

Last week industry specialists where given a sneak peak of the much anticipated Royal Caribbean’s, Allure of the Seas. Although sister- ship to the 10 month old Oasis of the Seas, don’t expect them to be identical twins as she will boast a number of new features.

As Allure of the Seas nears completion in a shipyard in Turku, Finland the question hung on everyone’s lips whether Allure of the Seas will steel the crown from sister ship, Oasis for the world’s largest cruise ship.

At one point the cruise ship Captain, Hernan Zini, jokingly told guests that Allure of the Seas officially measured five millimetres longer than Oasis of the Seas. But Royal Caribbean Cruises CEO Adam Goldstein said the sister ships will be jointly presented as the world’s largest cruise ships (though the official size measurement -- gross registered tonnage -- has not been taken yet).

Executives noted that small differences in the interior layout of the two vessels could result in slightly different gross register ton measurements. Still, “essentially, they are the same,” Goldstein said.

Goldstein was nothing but upbeat when talking about Allure, which is scheduled to be delivered from the shipyard to Royal Caribbean on Oct. 28 and will begin sailing its first season of voyages in the Caribbean in December. It seems unlikely that the inaugural activities planned or the maiden voyage are going to be moved ahead even though the executives say’s the vessel’s construction is ahead of schedule.

While still very similar to Oasis, the Allure will possess a number of new features. Two new eateries will be added to the Boardwalk neighbourhood including a Mexican Restaurant called Rita’s Cantina, this will replace the Seafood Shack on Oasis and the Boardwalk Dog House which will serve a unique menu of hotdogs and sausages.

A Brazilian Steakhouse called Samba Grill will be added where barbecued meats will be carved by the tableside. The churrascaria will be located in the Solarium Bistro, which will continue to serve healthful meals for breakfast and lunch but then be transformed for the evening.

There will be a number of new entertainment options onboard, including a production of the Broadway musical Chicago and Dreamworks infused ice shows. The main theatre will feature a 3D screen which will show all the latest 3D movies. As well as the first at sea GUESS accessory store will be added to the promenade.

Regardless of its cuisine, decor and entertainment one thing is very clear from the members of the UK’s largest cruise forum website cruises.co.uk who are not overly excited by this ‘new’ ship. Although there are a few new features added the fact remains that it is still 95% similar to Oasis of the Seas. It will be interesting to see whether Royal Caribbean Cruises will succumb to reducing the cruise prices if demand falls for Allure of the Seas.
