Industry leaders to discuss current and future challenges

ABERDEEN, UK – Getting the most from mature fields and new development frontiers in the North Sea is the focus of the Baker Hughes UK Techno Day 2010, set for September 15 at the Aberdeen Exhibition Center. The technology showcase will feature speakers from the industry as well as Baker Hughes leaders.

The keynote speaker is Leo Koot, managing director of TAQA Bratani Ltd., a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company. Also featured on the agenda are Charles Lucas-Clements, director of Xcite Energy Resources Ltd., who will outline the challenges of developing heavy oil fields in the North Sea, based on his experience at the Bentley Field; and John Owens of Maersk Oil North Sea UK Ltd., who will discuss high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) formation evaluation challenges in the North Sea.

The conference will focus on six primary topics. In addition to heavy oil and HPHT developments, sessions are planned on deepwater exploration and production, environmental solutions, brownfield developments, and underground gas storage. Workshop sessions scheduled throughout the day will allow participants to learn more about unconventional gas technologies, field development planning, geomechanics, intelligent reservoir systems, and downhole scale management. Attendees can also participate in a gravel pack simulation demonstration.

“The Techno Day fosters a deeper discussion on critical applications that drive our customers’ businesses and connects them in a peer group framework to openly address common challenges. Likewise, it affords our scientists and engineers the chance to hear direct customer feedback, which sharpens our focus on how we can better serve our UK customers,” says Gary Rich, president of Baker Hughes in Europe. “This event provides our customers an opportunity to engage with Baker Hughes on a different level, away from the pressures of day-to-day operations.”
