Real-time Monitoring Decreases Overall Spending and Risk, Extends Life of Equipment

Valhalla, N.Y., September 09, 2010 – FUJIFILM Recording Media U.S.A., Inc., the premiere provider of quality tape media and storage intelligence, today announced the latest addition to its family of tape storage services, StorageIQ™, a new annual service that provides proactive monitoring of the total tape environment resulting in maximum performance, improved efficiency, long-term data protection and easier system support, freeing up time for storage administrators and IT managers to focus on best practices and data protection. Developed in conjunction with Crossroads Systems, Inc., a leading provider of solutions to protect, secure and restore business-critical data, Fujifilm’s StorageIQ service employs the ReadVerify Appliance (RVA) that provides monitoring of the total tape storage environment and reporting to help isolate and mitigate storage issues before backup failures occur, which helps data center personnel reduce spending by maximizing current equipment and minimizing hardware maintenance.

“StorageIQ from Fujifilm goes beyond tape media and offers storage administrators and IT managers complete insight into their tape library systems, empowering them to proactively resolve backup issues and tune their environment for greater performance,” said Daniel Greenberg, new product manager, FUJIFILM Recording Media U.S.A., Inc. “We are making tape storage smarter and even more efficient and cost effective for our customers with StorageIQ.”

StorageIQ
Easy to install, low cost and compatible with virtually any tape library environment, StorageIQ’s RVA provides a proactive method for monitoring and validating the integrity and health of the overall backup environment through comprehensive reporting. With seamless heterogeneous integration and no software to install, the application agnostic RVA plugs directly into the Storage Area Network (SAN) and immediately begins to monitor performance for one or multiple libraries in the data center. Maintenance updates are transparent to users so that the focus can be placed on cost reduction, performance improvements and maximizing utilization. Data collection is done out-of-band of the backup or data application with no impact on the existing storage infrastructure.

StorageIQ’s real-time notifications enable proactive corrective action before failures occur. Easy to use monitoring and reporting is web accessible conveniently allowing storage administrators and IT managers to view all libraries in a data center from one single graphical interface so they can rapidly navigate to critical issues. The real-time reporting pinpoints the root cause of problems in libraries, drives and tapes. The automated reporting also delivers real-time analysis of the efficiency of library or drive pool configurations while system analytics check firmware revisions, drive status and drive occupancy versus actual usage. By identifying low performing devices, under- or over-utilized assets and degrading components major cost savings are achieved through reductions in capital expenditures, ongoing maintenance and premature device wear.

StorageIQ™ Plus
In addition to the RVA, StorageIQ Plus offers a series of additional services for even greater control of the library environment including:
• Archive Verification Service: Provides a policy-based approach to verify system capability to read archived tape media over the course of its effective life.
• Library Overview Analysis: Produces advanced monthly reporting of the library environment in addition to quarterly summaries and recommendations.
• Tape Environment Analysis: Administers a quarterly detailed analysis of the current backup environment.
• Library Monitoring and Alerts: Offers remote monitoring and support of tape systems.
