Imtech acquires YSP in Finland to strengthen its traffic market position in the Nordic region

WEBWIRE

Gouda - Imtech N.V. (technical services provider in Europe) is announcing the acquisition of the Finnish high-tech traffic control specialist YSP. Employing 25 people, YSP has an annual revenue of almost 3 million euro. The acquisition contributes directly to the earnings per share.

René van der Bruggen, the CEO Imtech: ‘Strategically, the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway and Finland) forms an important growth market for Imtech. For this reason, we recently acquired the Swedish company NEA (2,200 employees). In terms of size, YSP is a relatively modest firm, but it has nevertheless been a successful frontrunner in high-tech traffic solutions in Finland for twenty years. The acquisition of YSP and the intensification of the internal co-operation between various traffic companies within Imtech in Europe will lead to further growth, and represents a significant step forward in establishing a strong position in the traffic market in the Nordic region and the rest of Europe.’

YSP profile
YSP is a traffic control specialist, founded in 1984, and is based near the Technology Campus of the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. YSP is a very strong player on Finnish traffic technology market, and specialises in the full range of high-tech traffic control, including traffic telematics, traffic applications, ICT (automation and software), ‘electric design’ and the complete integration and implementation of these systems along motorways, in road tunnels and in cities. Maintenance and management form a significant and increasing component of the company’s overall income: an example is a contract with the Finnish Transport Agency.

The position of Imtech on the European traffic market
Imtech is in a strong position on the European traffic market. With around 1,000 traffic specialists, the company provides hundreds of customers in the inter-urban and urban market with a wide range of high-tech traffic solutions, varying from intelligent transport systems to dynamic traffic management, safety, and enforcement, and reductions in harmful environmental effects, as well as priority systems and dynamic travel information. Imtech is also a strong player in the high-tech traffic and mobility centre market. The company is active in the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium, Central and Eastern Europe (especially Poland and Croatia), Sweden and Finland, and exports mobility solutions to the rest of Europe and beyond as well. From a strategic point of view, the Nordic region is an important growth region for Imtech, including in the traffic market.

Synergy
The co-operation between YSP and Peek Traffic (the Imtech traffic technology specialist) in Sweden and Finland will lead to further strengthening of the position in Nordic, while complementary customer databases will form an outstanding basis for cross-selling. The exchange of technological knowledge will make it possible to provide extensive technological packages. Experience of making technological traffic solutions work, and keeping them working, under exceptionally cold weather conditions means Imtech is in a position to operate markets in the north of Norway and Sweden, as well as in Russia and the Baltic countries. Because of the greater revenue volume, investments in technology will yield returns more quickly, and this will strengthen the company’s competitive position. YSP’s management team will stay on after the acquisition, guaranteeing continuity.
