Avaya Aura™ Session Border Controller, Powered by Acme Packet™, Addresses the Needs of Mid-Sized Enterprises, Branch Offices and Small Contact Centers

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Avaya, a global leader in business communications systems, software and services, today announced it has extended its relationship with Acme Packet for Session Border Controller (SBC) capabilities that are now part of its Avaya Aura™ 6.0 communication platform. The Avaya Aura Session Border Controller provides enterprises with an end-to-end, session initiation protocol (SIP)-based solution that delivers greater security, interoperability, control and manageability of real-time, multimedia communications across IP network borders.

The Avaya Aura Session Border Controller, powered by Acme Packet, leverages Acme Packet’s Net-Net® OS-E software embedded within the Avaya Aura System Platform. The solution offers a more cost-effective solution for mid-sized enterprises, branch offices and small contact centers. Supporting up to 750 SIP sessions, it complements the Acme Packet Net-Net SBC solutions currently available from Avaya and Avaya Connect channel partners.

“The inclusion of session border control capabilities as an embedded, virtualized component of Avaya Aura helps customers enjoy the cost and business advantages of unified communications with the confidence that they are highly secure and fully interoperable with industry-leading SIP trunking and hosted IP service offerings,” said David Downing, vice president and general manager, Unified Communications, Avaya.

“The extension of Acme Packet’s agreement with Avaya will help drive the rapid expansion of SIP-based services beyond the large enterprise market,” said Andy Ory, president and chief executive officer of Acme Packet. “The agreement announced today underscores the trend toward all-IP communications in the enterprise, and the leadership of Avaya and Acme Packet in moving the market in that direction.”

The Avaya Aura Session Border Controller offers a rich set of features and functions for securing, controlling and managing SIP trunking and hosted IP services, as well as a broad range of UC applications. The Avaya Aura Session Border Controller is a component of Avaya Aura System Platform virtualization technology, which significantly reduces the overall hardware footprint and enhances serviceability. It is available as an option for customers with the latest release of Avaya Aura and Avaya Aura System Platform, announced July 20, 2010.
