Iceland news channel gets Inspired by Iceland

WEBWIRE

The Iceland news channel, IceNews, continues to cover the latest developments from the ‘Inspired by Iceland’ online tourism campaign, including ‘Iceland Hour’ and the ‘Iceland Inspires’ concert.

On Thursday 3rd June, approximately 320,000 residents of Iceland and government bodies left online messages of support, with the intention of encouraging visitors to experience Iceland for themselves. The event titled ‘Iceland Hour’ drew more than 5 million Twitter messages, 100,000 visitors to the Inspired By Iceland website, as well as 1 million downloads of the promotional video and images. IceNews also joined in support, with up-to-date news feeds as it happened.

In addition, IceNews was in the thick of the action during the ‘Iceland Inspires’ concert at Hljomskalagardur Park, located next to Tjornin in downtown Reykjavik. The concert, which took place on Thursday 1st July, was a free open-air event showcasing some of Iceland’s best musical talent, alongside international names such as Glen Hansard, Spiritualized and Damien Rice. The concert was also streamed live across the world via www.inspiredbyiceland.com.

As the ‘Inspired by Iceland’ campaign develops, IceNews will be there.

’Inspired by Iceland’ is intended to help push Iceland tourism in time for the summer months since the flight disruptions caused by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. Visitor numbers to Iceland have dropped significantly, due to the misled image that travelers have of the current situation in Iceland

IceNews is an independent online resource for Scandinavian and Icelandic news updated regularly. IceNews has been at the forefront for news regarding culture in Iceland, alongside the Inspired by Iceland campaign.
