Only the best mobile startups will present in San Francisco

San Francisco, Calif. – July 2, 2010 – VentureBeat has selected 20 of the hottest mobile startups for 2010’s MobileBeat Startup Competition taking place July 12th-13th in San Francisco. Over 200 hopefuls were nominated, but only 20 made the cut in the search for this year’s upcoming stars in the mobile application and service industry. Online voting polls singled out Snaptu and Aava Mobile as the fan favorites, earning spots as the top application and top service respectively. These two startups are joined by 18 other finalists, picked by a distinguished panel of MobileBeat advisors, and will have the chance to present their winning ideas in front of mobile influencers, investors and press. The top startup will receive the Tesla Award, alongside many other great prizes up for grabs. The initial 2008 Tesla Award went to mobile advertising company Admob, recently acquired by Google.

“What sets the MobileBeat 2010 Startup Competition apart is an interest in not only companies with innovative technology, but also ideas that have a great chance for market success,” said Matt Marshall, editor-in-chief of VentureBeat. “Aiming big is a key criterion in the selection process, and MobileBeat presents the companies poised to exploit superphones and the emergence of the 4G world.”
