Paul Stancato – set to direct Sound of Music at The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport, NY

New York, NY – New York director and choreographer, Paul Stancato, has signed on to direct the John W. Engeman Theater’s production of Sound of Music. The show will run from November 18th through January 9th 2011 in Northport, NY.

“Sound of Music is such classic in the musical theater cannon, but something that I don’t normally do.” Stancato said. “However, Richard (Richard Dolce, Artistic Director of the Engeman) and I spoke at length about the piece, so I went back and just read the script, without the music. It’s a fantastic play on it’s own. I found the ’why’ this show should be produced in today’s political climate, so I called Richard and told him I was in.” No cast has been announced at this time.

Currently, Stancato is scheduled to direct a benefit produced by Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights Aids and is also directing a new play by playwright, Natalie Wilson called ‘Spirit Dust.’

Paul Stancato is an award-winning director/ choreographer who has worked with directors Julie Taymor (Lion King, Spiderman Turn Off the Dark), John Rando (Urinetown, The Wedding Singer) and director/ choreographer Rob Ashford (Promises Promises, Thoroughly Modern Millie).
