Hospitalist management provider expands acute care presence in the Midwest

ST. LOUIS (May 3, 2010) – Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC), an acute care hospital in Crystal City, Mo., recently selected Inpatient Management, Inc. (IMI) to provide a hospitalist medicine program. IMI, a nationally recognized provider of comprehensive hospitalist services will install “IMI Management+,” a hospitalist management model, at JRMC.

“Ultimately, we want to continually improve our quality of care and enhance it 24 hours a day,” said Lloyd Ford, President and CEO at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. “The IMI hospitalist program will allow for quicker access to our physicians and will really help improve our ER wait times as well as the whole operation of patient care around the clock.”

Jefferson Regional Medical Center is a 238-bed general medical and surgical hospital approximately 40 miles south of St. Louis. IMI Management+ will include a full hospitalist medicine program designed to achieve all of JRMC’s clinical performance goals. The program will be in place by early summer 2010, with a hospitalist staff of five including a medical director, three hospitalist physicians and a nurse director. JRMC will employ all of the physicians in the program.

“We want to reduce our readmission rates and reduce length-of-stay,” said Ford. “And when you have a hospitalist available 24/7, you’re able to improve those statistics dramatically. We chose IMI because we know they’ve done good things in other areas. They already know many of our physicians, so we can start ahead of the game. IMI just has all of the tools that we were looking for.”

In 2009, JRMC was ranked in the top 5% nationally in the HealthGrades 2009 Patient Safety Excellence Awards, one of only three hospitals achieving that rank in the greater St. Louis area. In addition, JRMC received Five Star ratings for treatment of heart failure, pneumonia and respiratory failure. The St. Louis Business Journal recently named JRMC as one of the 2010 Best Places to Work in St. Louis.

“We are really looking forward to launching this new outstanding program in the Midwest,” said David Cornett, Vice President of Business Development at IMI. “JRMC has a strong commitment to quality and has consistently received high rankings in the St. Louis metropolitan area. We are very excited to join efforts in producing a thriving hospital medicine program. With all of our clients, we are able to design a management structure around the unique performance metrics and financial goals of the individual hospital. IMI is constantly growing and we expect a very successful and busy year for all of our client hospitals.”
