Lloyd’s Community Programme has held its fifth annual cricket cup at the Brit Insurance Oval.

Over 180 children from six primary schools in Tower Hamlets played at the impressive stadium, provided by Brit Insurance, in South London with help from volunteers from Lloyd’s and the London market.

Christ church Primary School were the overall winners after playing Virginia in the final, following the two schools succeeding in their morning and afternoon sessions. Christ church took home £200 for sports equipment for their schools as well as the Lloyd’s silver cup.

Nick Furlonge, Chairman of Lloyd’s Community Programme, said of the event:

“It’s been another wonderful day. The coaching makes such a difference and the standard gets better every year. The children have a great time and are learning to love cricket.”

Carol Rider, a teacher at Christ church Primary School said:

“Being invited here five years ago got the school into cricket and since then we’ve really taken the sport on board. Support from Lloyd’s has given us a passion for cricket and the children feel like they really achieve something on the playing field.”

Last year, Lloyd’s Community Programme celebrated its 20th anniversary and exceeded its target of 1000 volunteers from the market.
