Deco Lighting’s Induction Lighting at the University of South Florida Saves 50% in Energy to Go Green

At the fastest growing research university in the U.S., the University of South Florida is on the fast track to go green. USF officials and facility planners needed to replace inefficient outdoor lighting fixtures on the 1,700 acre Tampa, Florida campus to save energy costs, improve visibility and safety for students and faculty, and enhance the environment. USF selected Deco Lighting and their latest energy saving green technology Induction luminaires.

Deco Lighting replaced existing HID (high intensity discharge) cobrahead streetlighting fixtures with their new D8622i Python Induction luminaires that provide 100,000 hour lamp life, better quality illumination, and equivalent light levels using approximately half the wattage. Benefits to the university include immediate 50% utility cost savings with the new lighting system, and long term maintenance savings. Due to the substantially longer lifespan of Induction lamps, the labor and material cost of four relamping cycles of the HID fixtures is saved. The superior color and visibility of the new lighting has improved the nighttime campus environment and safety for students and staff. The Deco Python luminaires feature a precision cut-off reflector system that complies with Dark-Sky friendly standards to eliminate wasteful upward spill light and preserve the night skies.
