Device offers a highly integrated solution for bridging TDM and IP-based networks

MILPITAS, Calif. - LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that the LSITM LLP84672 Link Layer Processor has been selected as a finalist for this year’s EDN Innovation Awards. The Link Layer Processor serves as a bridge between traditional and IP-based networks, allowing service providers to migrate to IP-based networks while preserving existing infrastructure investments. Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the people, products and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year. Winners will be chosen in part by reader poll and announced at an awards ceremony on Monday, April 26, 2010, in San Jose, Calif. Ballots may be cast at www.edn.com/innovation20 until midnight on March 19.

“Service providers still need to leverage their current investment in traditional networks while migrating to cost-effective IP networks, and the LSI LLP84672 makes that possible,” said Mike Wallace, senior product marketing manager, Networking Components Division, LSI. “The nomination of the state-of-the-art LSI LLP84672 underscores the increasingly important role that highly integrated, multifunction link layer processors play in today’s evolving networks.”

The LLP84672 Link Layer Processor enables 2G, 3G and 4G wireless services to be merged into a single platform, reducing capital and operating expenses. A hybrid device combining hard-coded blocks and flexible programmable microsequencer cores, the LLP84672 features multiple protocols and pseudowires, allowing network providers to roll out a full complement of emerging and traditional services for their IP and MPLS networks. The LLP can support multiple protocols simultaneously, allowing migration from circuit switching (TDM) to cell switching (ATM) to packet switching (IP) on a single platform.

The LLP84672 is a member of the LSI family of multifunction link layer processors and can seamlessly interface to other leading-edge, multicore platforms from LSI including advanced communications, digital signal and media processors. As part of a comprehensive Multicore Done RightTM approach, the LLP84672 processor provides best-in-class networking capability. Additional information can be found on the LSI website at:
