TestAmerica Presents Findings on Data Quality at Environmental Research Symposium

WEBWIRE

TestAmerica’s technical team of experts will speak on new approaches to environmental data systems and effective method detection limits (MDL) procedures that drive improvements in data quality. The poster sessions will be given at the TVA-Kingston Fly Ash Release Environmental Research Symposium during the week of March 11-12, 2010 in Harriman, TN.

The first session, Producing Defensible Environmental Data using Modified and Non-Standard Methodology, will demonstrate the need to develop and implement data quality objectives in the system design to ensure that environmental data generated is defensible, and able to support the needs of data users. Identifying potential discrepancies using modified or non-standard methodologies need to be considered when designing and deploying environmental laboratory quality systems. This presentation will also discuss how these considerations affect the evaluation of coal ash and Kingston specific studies to provide data of known quality to the user community.

The second session, Establishing Effective Limits of Detection for Metals in Surface Water, will examine an alternate procedure for determining the MDL (FAC MDL) using a statistical evaluation of historical blank data. The purpose of this study is to improve the reliability of results near the MDL by using historical laboratory-prepared data in the daily verification analysis process. In regards to the Kingston Ash Recovery Program, this alternate procedure allows for a more precise evaluation of the risk associated with detection level concentrations of chemicals of concern through the analytically verified data.
