HP solution for LTE networks links data across isolated silos

PALO ALTO, Calif., HP today unveiled a telecom solution that helps service providers better serve the millions of mobile customers who use the internet through high-speed LTE (long-term evolution) networks.

HP Subscriber Data Management (SDM) enables service providers to integrate the valuable customer (subscriber) data that is dispersed across an organization in multiple repositories, including the Home Subscriber Server, location solutions, data services platforms, user device profiles, and operations and business support systems (OSS and BSS).

By creating a unified, in-depth view of each customer, HP SDM helps service providers assemble an integrated picture of their customers’ profiles. With this knowledge, providers can enrich the applications they offer to drive customer satisfaction and new revenue through highly personalized mobile services.

This capability is even more important as networks evolve from 3G (third generation) to 4G and LTE. With faster networks and smarter devices, data traffic and service options are rapidly increasing. Mobile users are enjoying thousands of web-based applications, many of which are delivered by “over the top” internet service providers and smartphone vendors.

“Telstra provides about 9 million Australian fixed-line services and over 10 million mobile services – including more than 6 million 3G services – and we are focused on providing each one of our customers with a rich, personalized and integrated experience,” said Michael Lawrey, executive director, Network and Technology, Telstra. “The convergence of networks and technologies requires a transformational approach in the way we do business, particularly in the way we first design and then offer our customers next-generation services. HP is helping us make the best use of our customer information and network assets so we can produce a personalized and integrated experience for our customers.”

In a competitive market with rising customer expectations, service providers can use HP SDM to leverage their unique assets: customer trust, detailed customer data, and powerful network capabilities that can enable a personalized, context-aware mobile experience.

“Service providers can offer an unmatched array of personalized services by creating a unified customer profile with HP SDM,” said Dave Sliter, vice president, Communications and Media Solutions, HP. “In the LTE world of unlimited customer choice, HP SDM can help service providers break down data silos, transform their business and ultimately offer subscribers a more rewarding experience.”

HP SDM enables service providers to choose among three broad approaches to achieving a unified subscriber profile: federation of existing repositories to dynamically link data from across a network, consolidation into a single repository, and replication of data in different repositories and moving it to a different entity that can allow the proper access.

HP SDM components

* HP Unified Profile provides a single, virtual view of all personal, contextual and behavioral information about each customer. To assemble a unified view, HP Unified Profile dynamically integrates data from disparate repositories, such as personal profile elements, applications, preferences, user devices, interests and user-generated content.

This master data management environment can streamline the capture, operation and handling of customer information, improving overall business velocity and providing the foundation for highly personalized services and support.

The core software elements in HP Unified Profile are HP Virtual Identity and Profile Broker, which performs the data federation, and HP OpenCall Profile Manager, which acts as a consolidated data repository.

* HP Home Subscriber Server (HSS) lowers costs and simplifies operations when used with HP Unified Profile. As the main database in the network, HP HSS provides core mobility management in next-generation environments such as LTE. HP HSS extends the functionality of the HP OpenCall Home Location Register (HLR) to store all customer data on services, setting and location for voice and data traffic. HP OpenCall HLR is used by 35 operators on five continents to support the mobile experiences of more than 300 million customers.

HP can help service providers consolidate HLR and HSS systems to reduce complexity and cost without sacrificing availability, scalability or reliability.

HP SDM is supported by industry-specific consulting and integration expertise and is delivered worldwide by HP Communications and Media Solutions.
