For UPS, NASCAR Means Business
Charlotte, Company Celebrates 10 Years as Team Sponsor, 11th season as Official Express Delivery Company of NASCAR
For the 10th consecutive year, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car will carry UPS’s brown and gold into the season-opening Daytona 500 as David Ragan of Roush Fenway Racing begins his second season behind the wheel of the No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion.
"We’re very excited to celebrate our 10th season as a team sponsor and our 11th year as the Official Delivery Company of NASCAR" said Ron Rogowski, director of sponsorships for UPS (NYSE: UPS). "Over the years, UPS’s racing program has provided a variety of benefits, helping us expand the UPS brand and grow our business on and off the track"
Entering the sport as an official partner in 2000, UPS has used its NASCAR program as an arena for business-to-business opportunities and to connect with customers, employees and racing fans across the country. Year after year, UPS has been able to attribute growth in sales and volume to customer experiences at UPS-hosted hospitality events at the racetrack.
UPS also uses its exclusive position as the official delivery company of NASCAR to expand its relationships with other corporate sponsors. When UPS began making trackside pick-ups and deliveries in 2000, the company was doing business outside the track with only about 40% of the other companies that sponsored drivers. Today, UPS has service contracts in place with approximately 90% of driver sponsors. Beyond business development, UPS uses its NASCAR program as a vehicle to recognize employees excelling in sales, safety and service. UPS hosted more than 800 employees at 17 racing events throughout the 2009 season.
"Our people are the key to UPS’s success and our racing sponsorship gives us a fun and unique way to acknowledge the contributions of those who are going above and beyond to keep UPS at the top of our industry" added Rogowski.
