Not even a donkey bite stopped Niclas Marie, TimeCenter’s founder, from buying 20 stubborn donkeys to hard-working women in Ghana. This donation marked the celebration of serving 200,000 bookings for small business owners using TimeCenter’s online appointment scheduling service.

In 2009, more online bookings than ever were made. Massage therapists, hair dressers and coaches are among the business owners that received bookings for more than 15 million US dollars using TimeCenter. Online booking gives small business owners a strong advantage during the recession, since they can provide 24/7 availability for appointment scheduling.

But all entrepreneurs are not as lucky. In Ghana, many women and children are suffering because of poor living conditions and poverty. TimeCenter decided to donate 20 donkeys that will be used by women to carry goods to the local market. This way, their children don’t need to work and can attend school instead.

“The first time I saw a donkey was at a circus when I was four years old. The donkey bit me and it was very painful.”, says Niclas Marie and continues: “Now is the time to get even and at the same time help those who need it the most.”

The animals were purchased from Gifts in Action, a non-profit organization that helps families in vulnerable parts of the world to tackle the effects of poverty.

TimeCenter is an online appointment scheduler that was founded in 2007 in Sweden. Small business owners can quickly set up their own booking page and send out automatic appointment reminders by email and text messages. TimeCenter is available in English, Swedish and French and is used by small businesses worldwide to accept online appointments.
