Government Home Access computer scheme uses Netintelligence e-safety

Netintelligence, the internet security and safety arm of hosting provider iomart Group plc, has been chosen to provide the e-safety software to support the Government’s initiative to ensure computer access for more low income children in state education in England.

The Home Access programme will be formally rolled out from early 2010 following two highly successful pilots in the Oldham and Sussex local authority areas. Initially the programme will target learners in years 3 to 9 and it is hoped that by March 2011 more than 270,000 households will have benefited.

is the preferred e-safety software partner for all six of the approved suppliers for the programme: Bli Education, Centerprise, Comet, Misco, Positive IT Solutions and XMA.

The Home Access programme is being managed by Becta, the government agency for technology and learning Low-income families who meet certain criteria will be able to apply for a Home Access Grant to purchase a compliant computer and internet package from the six approved suppliers.
The package has been designed with family use in mind. It includes the Netintelligence pre-set parental controls and anti-virus package, an installed productivity suite, firewall suite. It also includes the award-winning e-safety guide ‘Know IT All for Parents.’

Misco, one of the six approved suppliers for Home Access, said that ease of use and efficiency was vital in their selection of a security partner.
