Jackson Subaru Dealer Announces Subaru’s Sweep of the 2010 IIHS Safety Rankings

Jackson Subaru dealer, Paul Moak Subaru, is pleased to share the latest achievement for the 2010 Subaru lineup. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently announced its 2010 Top Safety Picks for various vehicle categories. Subaru is the only manufacturer to have a Top Safety Pick winner in every vehicle class in which it competes.

The Top Safety Picks awarded by the IIHS are based upon crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash. The Institute rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal, or poor based on performance in high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. To earn TOP SAFETY PICK for 2010 a vehicle must have good ratings in all four Institute tests. In addition, the winning vehicles must offer electronic stability control. The Subaru Impreza (except WRX), Forester, Legacy, Outback and Tribeca met these standards, and were awarded the IIHS “Top Safety Pick” designation.

This year, a roof strength requirement was added to the criteria for Top Safety Pick as a measure of the vehicle’s rollover protection. In order to earn a “Good” rating, the roof must be able to support 4 times the vehicle’s weight before reaching 5 inches of crush.
