Veteran KBMT journalist and host Brian Burns will welcome author David Hearne Thursday Oct 1, 2009 to his show to discuss Hearne’s latest book “Hulagu’s Web – The Presidential Pursuit of Senator Katherine Laforge.”

This Novel is a political thriller heavily steeped in current day politics. A heavy dose of intrigue and politics replaces the standard action fare: if you are afraid of reading challenging opinions and viewpoints that trigger self-examination, this is not the echo chamber book for you. The politics are blunt, opinionated, and unafraid, and thus, they cut mercilessly to the bone of poignancy. The book written by David Hearne details the tragic 2004 attack on Texas Senator Katherine Laforge’s campaign bus near Charlestown NH and exposes many secrets that led up to the deadly attack. In this race for the highest office in the land, presidential candidate, Senator Katherine Laforge garners the enthusiastic support of millions of Americans because she dares to offer real solutions for the challenges facing society. Her campaign, however, is challenged and undermined by her political and corporate adversaries willing to use any means to stop her, even murder and assassination. Her opponents fear the draconian changes she proposes to free the US from foreign oil and fix our financial problem by replacing Income tax with a National Sales Tax. Her enemies feel their profits are in danger if she is elected and they scheme to defeat her and subvert the constitution in favor of their corporate agenda.

For Beaumont, TX KBMT’s viewers, the Novel has an additional significance because much of its action takes place in the Golden Triangle Area. For example, in the Texas communities of Beaumont and Lumberton, a clandestine CIA laboratory is purported located near the Piney Woods region just off Cooks Lake Road. The laboratory is a place where advanced quantum physics research takes place dealing with cloning for defense purposes. Also divulged in the book is the personal side of Senator Katherine Laforge, even mentioning some of her most favorite haunts in the Golden Triangle area, like her hair salon, “Felicia’s Studio West,” or where she meets and eats, Tuffy’s Eatery in Mauriceville, Tx. – The novel also includes as characters in the story some real people from the area like Congressman, Nick Lampson, Texas Representative Mike Hamilton and Senator Katherine Laforge’s long time numismatist, Mike Fuljenz.
“Hulagu’s Web - The Presidential Pursuit of Senator Katherine Laforge” is a brilliant and slashing indictment of today’s political scene that struggles with some of the most prevalent political problems of our time. It is an ingenious and fast moving, spiced with assassination, conspiracy, action, mystery, deception, suspense, love, hate, politics, and even faith. It provides a fresh and original way to think about democracy, political process, and corporate greed. Emerging from the pages of Hulagu’s Web is a thesis that members of congress and groups of businessmen could clandestinely work together, backed by substantial funds, to corrupt the present democratic system and establish their own plutocracy.
