HP Announces Winner of “You on You” Contest

WEBWIRE

PALO ALTO, Calif., HP today named Lucas Ridley the grand prize winner of the HP You on You Project, a YouTube video contest that invited entrants from around the world to create and share original videos expressing themselves – without showing their faces.

Of more than 4,000 submissions, Ridley’s video, “Life is My Adventure,” stood out for how he communicated his passion for hang-gliding in creative, original and expressive ways. In addition to winning a $40,000 cash grand prize, Ridley will receive a tribute from Grammy-nominated artist Kenna on the YouTube homepage that will link to his winning video.

“This contest came at the perfect time in my life,” said Ridley. “I took a risk by putting my career on hold to pursue a passion for video making and by winning the You on You project, my creative skills are getting the recognition I only dreamed of.”

The You on You project is a viral extension of HP’s award-winning The PC is Personal Again campaign, which highlights self-expression and creativity through the use of technology. It featured new video-creation tools on YouTube – including improved video remixing and webcam video tools – to allow people of all skill levels to submit videos ranging from comedies to mini-biographies to documentaries that showcased their individual passions, causes and creative gifts.

Contest finalists include second-place winner P.J. Liguori with “My Utopia“ and third-place winner Nigel Joseph Anthony with “Make It Happen.” The finalists won $20,000 and $15,000 cash prizes, respectively. Additionally, all semifinalists each won an HP Pavilion dv6z Artist Edition 2 notebook PC.

“I wanted to inspire people to overcome their fears and believe in themselves so that they can cross any road that comes their way,” said Anthony of India.

“HP is passionate about personal expression and inspiring creativity through technology,” said David Roman, vice president, Marketing Communications, Personal Systems Group, HP. “Young aspiring artists from around the world have described who they are in unique and inventive ways, demonstrating that the PC, and how you use it, is truly personal.”

Community award

All approved videos were eligible for the Community Award. The first-place winner of a $15,000 cash prize was Tim Chantarangsu with “You on You on ME.” Second and third place won cash prizes of $7,500 and $2,500, respectively, in community distinctions. The You on You channel received more than 2.5 million views from people in 175 countries, making it one of the most successful YouTube engagement programs to date.
