TYLER, Tex. – During current economic times, and as refiners globally face the challenge of the world’s crude oil and gas supplies becoming increasingly more sour, the significance of capital costs, reliability, and environmental performance of Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU) at new and existing refineries and gas processing plants grows in importance. Focused on these challenges, Goar, Allison and Associates (GAA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air Products (NYSE: APD), and a leading supplier of technologies and expertise for the sulfur block, will present technical papers and attend three conferences in the next months, and has launched a new streamlined Web site at www.goarallison.com to make it easier for operators and designers to learn about successful operating practices and merits of incorporating key SRU technologies at their plants.

GAA has nearly 35 years of experience commercializing SRU technologies in over 20 countries worldwide. “Customers will find there are capital savings, development of integration opportunities, efficient project execution, and optimized process operations by working with GAA and Air Products,” said Uday Parekh, vice president–Sales and Marketing at GAA. “We can address both a company’s sulfur block technology requirements, and engineering and industrial gas supply needs at once.”

GAA has experienced high levels of interest in its proprietary technologies for sulfur removal to decrease harmful emissions to the atmosphere including COPE® and D’GAASS®. The COPE technology helps increase capacity of an SRU at a fraction of the cost of building a new SRU. D’GAASS is a leading sulfur degassing technology that can reduce the dangerous H2S content in liquid sulfur to below 10 ppmw, making it safe for storage, loading and transport for use in the manufacture of products such as sulfuric acid and fertilizers. The D’GAASS technology has over 75 licenses and installations in its brief 13-year history, and has been adopted at some of the largest sulfur recovery facilities in the world.

In addition to the new Web site, GAA and Air Products, a leading supplier of hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen to the energy industry, will have technology experts at three key industry conferences in the coming months to share information on each company’s offerings and the synergies from their sulfur technology and industrial gas expertise. The conferences include:

• Brimstone Sulfur Symposium, Vail, Colo.; 14-18 September – Presenting paper titled “Industrial Gas Supply for the Sulfur Recovery Industry,”

• National Petrochemical and Refiners Association Q&A and Technology Forum, Fort Worth, Tex.; 11-14 October – Presenting seminar titled “Sulfur Recovery Unit Fundamentals, Case Studies and Troubleshooting,” and

• Sulphur 2009 International Conference and Exhibition, Vancouver, Canada; 8-11 November – Experts will host a booth to discuss SRUs, sulfur degassing, sulfuric acid and oxygen enrichment technologies.
