Bed Retailer Dreams Recycle Mattress Mountain Taller than Everest

WEBWIRE

It’s a fact, Dreams can move mountains! If all the 55,000 mattresses Dreams has collected and recycled on behalf of its eco-friendly customers in the last 12 months were piled on top of one another, they would create a mattress mountain taller than Everest.

Standing at a magnificent 29,029 feet high, Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. Dreams’ mattress mountain would soar past the magnificent ‘roof of the world’ to reach a breath-taking 37,000 feet: cruising altitude of the average Jumbo jet. Something to think about when you fly off on holiday!

Nick Worthington, CEO of Dreams said: “To have recycled what amounts to a mountain of mattresses taller than Everest in just 12 months is an incredible achievement. We are continually striving to become an even greener Dreams and are delighted to help customers and the environment.”

Britain’s leading bed specialist’s recycling capability was dramatically boosted in 2007 when the bed retailer’s new state-of-the-art bed recycling facility was launched. Its two massive machines crush and shred beds, mattresses and packaging, which can be recycled.

Dreams has diverted a total of 640 tonnes of waste material from landfill in the last 12 months, 303 tonnes of which is a direct result of its bed recycling initiative. Dreams’ recycling commitment has led to it being named ‘High Street Recycling Champion’, an award supported by the Environment Agency and Defra’s Waste Implementation Programme.

Dreams’ mattress mountain would also equal 72 Blackpool Towers, 83 London Eyes and 63 Post Office Towers! Laid end-to-end, the mattresses would stretch for 65 miles, almost the distance from London to Oxford, or Glasgow to Perth.
