Employee Scholarship Program Supports the Dream of Higher Education and Future Life Success

Dallas, Texas, The AT&T Foundation — the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) — today announced, that just in time for back-to-school, it has awarded more than $5 million in college scholarships to over 600 children of AT&T employees for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year.

The AT&T Foundation’s employee scholarship program has provided more than $60 million in scholarships since its inception in 1993. Scholarships are awarded in a competitive selection process to children of AT&T employees who are pursuing undergraduate study at accredited four-year and two-year colleges and universities. A one-time honorarium is also offered for students attending military academies, in the United States.

“Investing in a well-educated workforce may be the single most important thing we can do to help America remain a leader in a digital, global economy,” said Laura Sanford, President of the AT&T Foundation. “The AT&T Foundation is committed to helping hard working students achieve future life success and is proud to support the families of our employees.”

The competitive scholarship selection process considers factors such as academic achievement, leadership skills, work experience, awards and honors and participation in school and community activities. In addition, special consideration is given to students who are the first generation in their family to attend college.

AT&T is committed to advancing education, strengthening communities and improving lives. In April 2008, AT&T launched Aspire, a $100 million high school success and workforce readiness initiative. AT&T Aspire is the company’s largest philanthropic commitment ever — and one of the largest-ever corporate commitments to address high school success and workforce readiness.
