TestAmerica to Address Advanced Analytical Techniques for the Identification of Trace Level Pesticides

WEBWIRE

Michael Flournoy, Technical Director at TestAmerica’s West Sacramento laboratory, will present compelling evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of emerging analytical techniques used for the identification of trace level pesticides in environmental matrices at the 2009 National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC). The presentation will be given on August 11, 2009 in San Antonio, TX.

The use of High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) for the identification of trace levels of organochlorine pesticides provides new solutions to the issues of elevated detection limits and interferences caused by co-extracted non-target compounds. Recent developments show the success of the HRMS technique in addressing adverse conditions caused by complex environmental matrices that have traditionally proven to be problematic under historically used methods.

This presentation will highlight the analyte identification process utilizing High Resolution Mass Spectrometry for the analysis of pesticides, incorporating many of the same analytical techniques routinely used in the trace level identification of Dioxins, Furans, PCB congeners, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and other persistent organic compounds. Demonstrations of method precision and accuracy resulting in lower levels of compound detection will also be discussed.
