AFA Contributes to MSP & M_o_R Reference Groups

WEBWIRE

Alan Ferguson, Managing Director of the accredited training organisation, AFA, has recently attended the inaugural meeting of the MSP Programme Management and M_o_R Risk Management Reference Groups. These groups are central to the continued evolution of the OGC best practice guides.

The Office of Government Commerce (OGC), a UK Government Agency, owns PRINCE2, MSP, M_o_R, P3O, ITIL, etc. Over recent years they have put in place increasingly sophisticated procedures to ensure the methods continue to reflect current best practice and also remain aligned. The Reference Groups, one for each method, play a pivotal role in maintaining the currency and alignment of the methods.

A Reference Group is a small group of individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds who each have a wealth of experience in using a method. In addition they are likely to be familiar with the mechanism for carrying out a method refresh. An Issues Register for each method is hosted by TSO via the Best-Management-Practice website. The Register is an important tool for capturing detailed corrections and amendments. The Reference Group supplements this valuable repository of detailed changes, by taking a broader view and putting the priorities for each refresh into a wider context. The mandate that emerges from their work sets the scene for the work of the refresh authors. The intention is that the Reference Group will provide continuity, over the years and across multiple refreshes.

Following on from the MSP Reference Group, an M_o_R Reference Group has also been formed. Alan has been invited to join this Group as well.

Alan has been involved in all the MSP & M_o_R refreshes since the inception of both methods. He has also reviewed most of the other method refreshes over the last decade. He is delighted to be able to make a contribution to the evolution of the OGC methods by contributing to various Reference Groups.
