Last year’s top-earning weekends reveal best days for Hosts to earn in 2023

Hosts globally earned more than $21 billion during the first half of 2022, with over 40% of that during the first three months, proving that Hosts can continue to earn in the immediate post-holiday slump and well before peak spring break and summer travel. 

As international travel continues to rebound, and guests become even more flexible about where they travel and when, there has never been a better time to become an Airbnb Host. With new insights on top-earning weekends and thanks to Airbnb tools including What’s My Place Worth and Smart Pricing, there are many ways and days for Hosts to maximize their earning potential in 2023.

While holiday weekends are a typical time to earn, Hosts are seeing increasing opportunities to welcome guests any time of year, particularly as travelers become more flexible about where or when they can go due to remote and hybrid work.In fact, non-holiday weekends made up nearly half of the 10 top-grossing weekends during Q1 and Q2 2022 combined, with Hosts globally earning more than $2.2 billion during those top non-holiday weekends.

During the first half of last year, Hosts in destinations across North America that hosted major events collectively earned more than $50 million.² This year, from World Pride in Sydney and the London Marathon to the biggest night in football in Glendale, Arizona, USA, Hosts could have additional opportunities to welcome enthusiasts from around the world and earn extra income. 

Six new Airbnb Categories introduced during the 2022 Winter Release also offer Hosts the chance to highlight their unique homes and connect with guests – from Play, featuring homes for the young or young at heart to New, celebrating new homes that have been on the platform for three months or less.

To capitalize on the year ahead and help estimate future earnings, Airbnb offers a suite of tools designed to decipher one’s earning potential and maximize it, any time of year:

• What’s My Place Worth tool helps new Hosts see their estimated monthly income from hosting, using booking data from the past 12 months from similar Airbnb listings.

• Airbnb Setup, introduced during the 2022 Winter Release, is a new and streamlined way to Airbnb your place, with free one-to-one guidance from a Superhost, the opportunity to host an experienced guest as your first guest, and one-tap access to a specially-trained team of Community Support agents.

• Smart Pricing, which existing Hosts can turn on and off at any time, automatically changes nightly prices based on demand, a helpful tool for those who want to optimize pricing without constant monitoring – with the option to set fluctuation limits and customize specific nightly prices at any time.
